Dr. Ajay Kohli, Research Director at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), delivered an inspiring seminar entitled “Molecules to Agriculture to Socioeconomic Impact: Rice-Based Food System as a Model for Leveraging Molecular Biology” on January 9 at ITQB NOVA.
With over three decades of international experience in genomics, genetics, and bioinformatics across India, the UK, the USA, and the Philippines, Dr. Kohli shared valuable insights into IRRI’s integrated research framework, which bridges molecular discoveries with agricultural and socioeconomic applications. Using rice as a model system, he demonstrated how advances in gene and genome research are translated into field solutions that enhance climate resilience, sustainability, and farmers’ livelihoods.
